PERSONALITY |
POSITIVE Resilient Just because he's a strong fighter doesn't mean that Kylin is invincible, and he's bound to fall at some point or another. However, Kylin doesn't hate defeat, it just means he can look back on it and work for the better. This makes Kylin extremely resilient, and he's known to be quick to bounce back on his feet. Fearless It isn't often that Kylin feels daunted by something, and when he does, it's usually for a good reason. Possessing a strong will, he walks forward free of such shackles, and he can take anything on, even in the face of failure. Independent Having to fend for himself at so young an age has left Kylin highly independent and reliable on his own. For him, people often get in the way, and it's just easier to do things by himself. Relying on others is a pretty big no-no in his list. Competitive Competitive by nature, Kylin isn't one to give up without a fight. Though it might not show, since he tends not to be the one to start a fight, he really just wants to test himself against his peers. Intuitive There are some things that Kylin just knows. Sometimes he can explain it. Other times he can't. Because of how accurate his instincts usually are, he has a lot of faith in them, and if logic leads to a dead end, then instinct is the next best thing. LIKES Solitude Humans are stupid, and for Kylin, there's nothing more to it. They spout meaningless noise and can't seem to stop doing it. They're ignorant and balk in the face of death. As far as the teen is concerned, they're all trash unless proven otherwise, and they can all drop dead like the shit they are. Lightning There's something alluring about that brief flash in the sky. It's raw power, unbridled and at its best, but at the same time, it's so fleeting, and never stays for long. Kylin's interest in lightning has nullified any fears of storms he might have. Fighting There's something unspeakable about being in a true fight. A warrior at heart, some say that Kylin fights because he's looking for a place to die. They aren't entirely wrong. It's his life, his reason for being. His everything. It's not that he likes seeing people in pain, it's just that it's so... That exhilaration that only comes when dancing with death is intoxicating, and no words are needed to communicate in that clash of wills. There's no clutter, it's simply kill or be killed. Ice Cream Kylin’s all time favorite food is ice cream. Green tea is currently his favorite flavor, and he prefers to eat it on cones or sticks. He claims that it’s a result of staying in the Rooks Project for so long, as they apparently rewarded good behavior with the sweet, icy treat. The Sky If you ever asked him what he was, Kylin would tell you he was a bird. A disappointingly flightless one. Which is a little cliche, sure, but it's a feeling he can never get rid of. He was born in the sky, there's nothing that could possibly tear him away from it. As such, he's often found in high places, and hates staying in places where he can't see that ever changing canvas. | NEGATIVE Restless Kylin's possesses a restless soul, and he hates staying in one place for too long. Despite how he acts, he's actually full of energy, and he tries his best to always be productive when he can. Fickle Though he may warm up to certain people, Kylin is fickle with his affections. There are times when he can be flat out cold to those he hold dear, while other times, he's overflowing with warmth. He can get a little sulky when his attentions aren't returned, however. Prideful Pride means a lot to Kylin, and if he feels you've injured it, he'll chase you to the ends of the earth to right the perceived wrong. Because of this, he's been known to hold grudges, though he isn't immature enough to let it get in the way of business. Really really hates asking for help though. Noncommittal Kylin doesn't like binding himself to things, so he can sometimes be really noncommittal. He's loyal to himself above all else, and he doesn't really hold many set ties that he feels obligated enough to attend to all the time. Quirky There are some odd quirks that Kylin has, and people sometimes find him weird for it. He likes playing with peoples' hair, for once, and might disregard personal space to abruptly do it. Just small things like that that make him a little my-pace in attitude. DISLIKES Heroes The concept of heroism is, in a word, absurd. Kylin is too jaded to believe that the pure-hearted heroes often spoken about in stories really exist. No one can be that altruistic, and from what he can tell, heroism is just a label used to mask ulterior motives. Be it attention, rewards, favors, or whatever else, that's just how it is. Women in General Sure, Kylin isn't very fond of people, but his distaste for women goes beyond that. Most of them are even noisier than normal people. Not only that, they're vain and always want attention. Worst of all, they're weak. Call it sexism or whatever, but he hates dealing with them, and avoids them if he can help it. Cold Weather Though he may not look it, Kylin actually isn't a fan of cold weather. It's not that he hates it entirely, since a certain level of coldness can bring about a clarity that isn't usually there, it's just that he likes being warm much much better. Food Kylin hates having to eat. Sure, food tastes good most of the time, and he needs to consume it to keep his strength up, but for whatever reason, eating too much at one time makes him feel really sick. It's not an unbearable feeling, but it's uncomfortable nonetheless. To get around this problem, Kylin just eats whenever he feels hungry, giving him an erratic eating schedule. However, a lot of the time, he just doesn't eat, period. Hunger isn't really something that bothers him. Clocks Time is just another restraint, and its medium is something just as controlling. Though they're said to be helpful, Kylin really dislikes clocks because of how much they dictate the occurrences in life. Don't even bother talking to him about how weird he is for doing things normal people do at so and so time—he'll lash out at you with no regrets. |
HISTORY Wu Qiling, better known as Kylin in the States, was born in the sky. His parents, a Japanese-American mother and Chinese father had him on an airplane 37,000 feet in the air. By then, they had already lived in the U.S. for some time, and they were on their way from the west coast to their new home on the other side of the country. Though the news of his birth was sensational for a while, the story eventually faded away from peoples' memories, and he became just like any other kid. Kylin's childhood wasn't an unhappy one. His days were peaceful, if a bit dull. But at the time, he didn't know anything other than "normal", so he didn't mind much about what life had in store for him. He had dreams and friends like any normal child. Neither he nor his family thought that his future would be incredibly amazing, but they expected a good future nonetheless. Until he was selected to participate in the Rooks Project, that was. Because his name took longer than usual to appear, he was thought to be a blank fighter and was taken in. Blanks were coveted for being able to pair up with any fighters and sacrifices, and there was interest in training them from an early age to fight well in spell battles to form elite battle units made up of pairs of interchangeable blanks. His parents, mundanes who knew nothing of the world of fighters and sacrifices, didn't think much of it. They were told that their son had won a scholarship to a relatively prestigious institution and were proud to let him go. And thus, at the age of seven, Kylin was put into training, not only for spell battles, but for physical battles as well. The details of the seven years he spent in the Rooks Project are sketchy, and no one but the people involved really knew what happened to him during those years, but during that time that he became the person he is now. It was also during that time that he lost his ears, as he came home for high school without them, much to the horror of his parents. It had taken the project runners a while to realize this, since a child with a true name was fighting amongst blanks, but once they realized that Kylin had a true name after all, after it finally appeared on his skin, they had sent him home. Because of that, the boy was set to enter high school like any normal child. Once again, however, he was offered a "scholarship", this time to Blackwood Academy. His parents were wary that their son was being sent to yet another school on scholarship, especially after the incident involving his ears, but in the end, there was nothing they could do but to agree, since the Kylin they knew from seven years earlier wasn't the same as he was now. |
OTHER - Despite being only sixteen, Kylin's already lost his ears and tail. Not that he misses them; he actually hated those things for always giving away how he was feeling. He also doesn't care that people know about his loss of virginity and refuses to wear fakes. - Fluent in English and Chinese. Also speaks a little Japanese. - Due to his unhealthy eating habits, he sometimes collapses from malnutrition. It's a relatively rare occurrence though. - Keeps a small yellow bird with him at almost all times. If it's not around, then it's probably nearby. Kylin houses it in his room, even though it's against dorm rules. - Actually isn't very keen on meeting his Sacrifice. Likes to battle alone, even if it's considered taboo to the spell battle world. - Appears slim, but is actually lean with muscle. Uses a pair of tonfa when he gets into physical fights. - His earlessness and maturity often let him pass as older than he really is. - True name located under his left clavicle like some sort of tattoo. To be honest, he kind of thinks his name is stupid so he tries not to let it show. |
