|SAMEEN AMTAL ELIZAVETYEVNA NGUYEN||SAM|
Pay attention. You are about to learn something.
Sameen is the type to do things with her whole heart and mind. She snaps to action, often dragging other people with her. She tends to take the initiative, and is usually the one starting a conversation.
Quick-witted and keen-minded, Sameen has a flexible mind and easily grasps new concepts. She might not always use it, but there's a brain in that skull.
She doesn't really turn off. Ever. Neither shy nor timid, the closest Sameen usually gets to asking permission is respectfully informing everyone involved that she is going to do the thing. If she is unable to do a thing, Sameen finds another way to do the thing, or the next best thing.
The world is cold, vast, and random. Safety is an illusion, and consequences are a choice. Discord is the only constant. At any moment you can be struck by lightning, or a blood vessel in your brain might burst and kill you. Worrying about it doesn't help, so Sameen doesn't worry about it.
Sameen believes that people are fundamentally good, everyone is their own individual with their own needs and desires, and can be trusted to respect themselves and others. It's remarkable how far that gets her.
From holding hands to heavy petting, Sameen is a very touchy, cuddly person. If she's been relaxing with friends she'll usually have to take a moment to disentangle herself before going anywhere.
SPORTS! EXERCISE! LIFTS! 5AM RUNS! There's a reason Sameen's so fit.
Loud, feral, barely-comprehensible death metal. Weird girl-thrash speed metal. Operatic power metal. All kinds of metal. Sameen's music collection is weapons-grade.
Sameen is a voracious reader, primarily of fiction. Borrowing her headphones is a game of "Will it be Cannibal Corpse or the Silmarillion?"
Is friends with all of the dogs. Will pause conversations mid-sentence to point out a dog. Is aware of all dogs within view at all times.
She's fluent in seven languages, with a flexible mind and quick tongue. She just... doesn't really use either one. A good joke has layers of meaning, each tailored to the moment, the audience, the atmosphere, the timing, the subject, and so on. A truly shitty pun transcends language and social constructs, delivered the moment Sameen thinks of it, and followed by Sameen laughing - often uncontrollably - at her own joke.
Okay, dudes are fine and all, but have you ever even seen a girl? Sameen has seen a girl. Sameen cannot stop seeing girls. Sameen will drop whatever she's doing and leave you hanging mid-sentence just to look at a hot girl.
She speaks elvish. Sameen Amtal Elizavetyevna Nguyen is fluent in elvish. She sat down one day and decided she would learn elvish, and then went through with it. She practiced out loud. She wrote smutty Galadriel/Eowen fanfiction in Tengwar. They get married and have beautiful magic half-elf children that have adventures and fall in love. Their lives are chronicled in detail.
Sameen shows the world what she wants it to see, and what she wants to see in herself. She's still working on it. Trying to find a happy middle ground between the public face and the private face.
Usually all it takes to get Sameen to do something is an audience. If it's something especially stupid, someone might have to double dare her.
Sameen doesn't like to explain herself. Plans, reasons, feelings, whatever. She keeps it all to herself if she can help it.
Imposed rules and restrictions chafe at her. Assumption makes an ass out of you and mption. Sameen prefers to operate on mutual understanding and respect, not fear of punishment.
She's not big on contracts. She can do stuff, sure. She can even do stuff for a long time. She likes staying healthy. She's good at school. She'll never say something like "I'm committed to my body," or "I care about my grades."
Sameen might not like explaining herself, but that doesn't mean she can't. She makes informed decisions, and does her best to do the right thing based on what information she has at the time. She loathes blind faith and herd mentality.
Muscle-bound goddess goes running at 5AM every day come rain or sleet or dark of night. Despises being cold, or even chilly. Spends most of the winter indoors, grumpy and wrapped in blankets next to a heater. Identifies strongly with most bears.
Name a place, and Sameen can name a relative. She has a big family, and grew up in a big home. She has two moms: Alpha Mom and Mom Two: Electric Boogaloo. One is a veteran soldier, the other is a professional editor. The story of her birth involves science, an actual witch doctor, and a kickass drum solo. She was raised a polyglot from birth on Russian songs, Vietnamese stories, Spanish poetry, even occasional English. She went to church, mosque, synagogue, temple, etc. Shit got multicultural. She’s still not entirely sure if she’s actually related to half her family or if they just kind of adopt random strangers, which would explain why most of her relatives are people who, if you called them your grandmother, would just kind of roll with it.
Sameen was a curious kid, like all kids. Her moms doted on her, and did their best to satisfy her curiosity and prepare her for the future. In the end, Sameen came out with a flexible, inquisitive mind, a strong sense of responsibility, and a functional understanding of both human nature, archery, and kung fu.
The decision for her to attend Blackwood Academy wasn't hers. For most of her life, Sameen has been a typical military brat, bouncing around the world and never staying in one place for more than a couple of years. She learned from an early age how to break into social circles and make friends easily, and not to expect any of it to last.
Her formal education has always been choppy, and for all her discipline and resourcefulness, getting into Blackwood was an exercise in string-pulling and nepotism. She knows stuff, and she knows she knows stuff, but somehow it's only the right stuff around half the time, and the other half is sitting alone with well-meaning teachers feeling like a fucking idiot. The other half is sitting half-awake in remedial English classes because she just spent nine months in Tehran and didn't shake her accent fast enough after moving. The other half is hot tears at 2AM because she should have this assignment done by now but a patrol was ambushed in Iraq and she hasn't heard from Alpha Mom in days.
Then there was Blackwood. From base to boarding school for four years. From South Korea to Massachusetts. On her own. She didn't take it well. Even after she was talked around to it, she still didn't like it. Even after being informed that she is literally a wizard, she still approaches things with a touch of 'This, too, shall pass.'
